Newborn Photography in Essex

Calm, Baby-Led Newborn Sessions in Your Own Home

The first days with your newborn pass quietly and quickly — a fleeting chapter filled with tenderness, wonder and new connection.

My newborn photography sessions in Essex are designed to preserve this beautiful beginning with calm guidance and refined artistry, creating timeless portraits that will become part of your family’s story.

Every session unfolds gently at your baby’s pace, allowing time for feeding, cuddles and settling whenever needed.

I photograph newborn sessions for families across Witham, Chelmsford, Maldon, Colchester, Braintree, Halstead, Brentwood, Billericay, Wickford and surrounding areas of Essex.

A Safe, Calm and Trusted Experience

Welcoming someone into your home to photograph your newborn requires complete trust.

Your baby’s comfort and safety are always my highest priority.

I am fully insured, DBS checked, trained in newborn photography safety and paediatric first aid, and spent over a decade working in healthcare and social care environments before becoming a photographer.

Newborn sessions can last up to 3.5 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, settling and breaks whenever your baby needs them.

Nothing is rushed.
Everything is approached calmly so both baby and parents feel completely at ease.

In-Home Newborn Photography Across Essex

Your newborn session takes place in the comfort of your own home.

I bring everything needed for the photographs — carefully selected wraps, blankets, textures and props — creating a soft studio-style setting within your space.

Photographing newborns at home allows babies to remain relaxed in familiar surroundings while parents can simply enjoy the experience without travelling to a studio.

Parents and siblings are always welcome to take part, capturing the love and connection that surrounds your baby during these early days.

A Blend of Posed and Natural Newborn Portraits

My photography style combines beautifully posed newborn portraits with natural family moments, creating a balanced and timeless collection of images.

During your session, I gently guide your baby into soft, comfortable poses using supportive wraps and textures, capturing the peaceful curled positions many parents love.

Alongside these portraits, I also photograph natural moments between you and your baby — the quiet cuddles, tiny details and emotional connections that define the newborn stage.

A curated collection of baskets and props is available, carefully chosen to complement the gentle style of my work while always keeping your baby safe and comfortable.

When Should You Book Your Newborn Session?

Newborn portraits are ideally photographed within the first 5–21 days after birth, when babies are naturally sleepy and comfortable in curled poses.

Because this window is short, most families reserve their newborn session during pregnancy, once their due date is known.

Your due date is held in my diary and the session itself is arranged once your baby arrives.

If your baby is already here, please still get in touch — beautiful portraits are still possible with babies up to three months old, focusing on natural expressions and early personality.

Photography Designed to Become Artwork

Your newborn photographs are not created simply to be viewed on a screen.

They are designed to become artwork within your home.

From tiny fingers and curled toes to the quiet connection between you and your baby, these images are crafted to be printed, displayed and treasured for generations.

After your session you will be guided through choosing the photographs that will become meaningful wall art or heirloom albums for your home.

Reserve Your Newborn Photography Session

Because I photograph a limited number of newborn sessions each month to ensure a calm and personalised experience, early booking during pregnancy is recommended.

If you are expecting and looking for a trusted newborn photographer in Essex, I would be honoured to capture this beautiful beginning for your family.

FAQs

Which areas do you cover for newborn photography?

I offer in-home newborn photography sessions across Essex, including Witham, Halstead, Maldon, Chelmsford, Colchester, Braintree, Brentwood and Wickford as well as the wider Essex area. I travel to you so you can stay relaxed and comfortable at home.

When is the best time to book a newborn photo session?

The best time to photograph your newborn is within the first 7–30 days after birth, when babies are naturally sleepy and curl up beautifully. I recommend booking during early pregnancy to secure availability around your due date.

How long does a newborn photography session last?

Newborn sessions usually last 2–3.5 hours (depending on the package I offer). This allows plenty of time for feeding, settling and cuddles, ensuring the session is calm, baby-led and never rushed.

Do I need to prepare any props or outfits?

No preparation is required at all. I bring a carefully selected collection of soft, neutral wraps, blankets and props to create timeless images. If you have a sentimental item you’d like included, you’re very welcome to do so.

Can parents and siblings be included in the photos?

Yes, absolutely. Parents and siblings are always welcome. These images capture genuine connection and help tell the story of your growing family in a natural, meaningful way.

How do you keep my baby safe during the session?

Your baby’s safety and comfort are always my top priority. I work gently and patiently, using baby-led posing and natural positions, never forcing a pose. Sessions are calm, warm and guided entirely by your baby.

How far in advance should I book my newborn session?

I recommend booking your newborn session during pregnancy, ideally in your second or early third trimester. This ensures space is reserved, particularly for popular areas such as Witham, Chelmsford, Colchester and surrounding Essex towns.

What happens if my baby is unsettled or fussy?

That’s completely normal. I allow plenty of time for feeding, cuddles and soothing. Every session is flexible and adapts to your baby’s needs — there is never any pressure.

Can I request specific poses or setups?

You’re welcome to share any preferences during a phone consultation I offer a week before your booked session. I’ll always take these into account while prioritising your baby’s comfort and natural movements on the day.

What if my baby has flaky skin, blemishes or scratches?

Newborn skin changes are very common. I apply gentle, natural retouching to soften temporary blemishes while keeping your baby looking beautifully real.

Do you provide black and white images as well as colour?

Yes. Your gallery will include a mix of colour and timeless black and white images, carefully selected by you.

How soon will I receive my edited images?

Your professionally edited gallery is typically ready within 4 weeks. You’ll be invited to view your images online and choose your favourites in your own time.

Will we receive high-resolution digital images?

Yes. All purchased digital images are provided in high resolution on a memory stick, suitable for printing and preserving your memories for years to come.

Do you offer professional print products?

Yes. I offer a beautiful range of high-quality Fine Art print products, including albums and wall art, designed to be cherished for generations. I’ll guide you through the options after your gallery is ready.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel my session?

I understand that babies don’t follow schedules. If you need to reschedule due to illness or unexpected circumstances, I’ll always do my best to accommodate where possible.

Can I buy a newborn photography gift voucher?

Yes. Gift vouchers are available and make a thoughtful gift for expectant parents across Essex, including Witham, Maldon, Chelmsford and surrounding areas.

Do you charge extra for twins or triplets?

Twins and triplets are very welcome. I don’t charge extra for multiple newborn babies, but I will require at least one parent to assist me at all times to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the babies.
